DeForrest Borders, III | CEO & COO

DeForrest Borders, III was graduated from Harvard College, A.B. Government (Political Philosophy), Class of 1985. Mr. Borders brings 20+ years of financial management, innovation, and strategic expertise to IUHS. Beginning his career at merchant bank L.F Rothschild, Unterberg, Towbin, Mr. Borders spent 12 years at JP Morgan Chase becoming a senior member of strategic venture capital by founding Chase Global Markets Venture Lab. From 2002 through 2004, Mr. Borders was COO of Cornerband, Inc., one of the first cloud computing companies focused on transforming the economics of the music industry.  And from 2005 – 2011, as CEO of  fashion and media company.

 

RJ Simms  |  CFO

RJ Simms was directly involved with the formation and start-up of the IUHS School of Medicine and has served as the President, Chancellor, CFO, COO and CDO. Mr. Simms is a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) graduate from the University of Manitoba. RJ joined a Big 8 accounting firm in 1978 and earned his Canadian Chartered Accountant designation. His Big 8 career included working in the firm’s Vancouver, Calgary, Dallas and Nassau, Bahamas offices. In 1986, RJ moved to the US and founded IAG Global, a financial and tax accounting firm specializing in serving US-based clients with international business.

 

Dr. Neil Shocket  |  Dean of Pre-Clinical Studies

Dr. Shocket is responsible for the development and oversight of the IUHS’s pre-clinical (i.e. Years 1 and 2) medical education curriculum and overseeing all full and part time professors situated throughout the US, Canada and St. Kitts. Dr. Shocket earned his M.D. from University of California (Irvine) and is a Board Certified Emergency Medicine in Los Angeles. 

 

Dr. Rick Furay  |  Dean of Clinical Studies

Dr. Richard Furay coordinates our student’s clinical curriculum. Dr. Furay, is a graduate of Wake Forest University. He earned his medical degree and completed his surgical residency at the Medical College of Ohio. He is a board certified General Surgeon and has practiced General Surgery for over 25 years in Springfield Ohio. In addition to his surgery practice, Dr. Furay has participated as an Oral Board Examiner for those pursuing board certification for the American College of Surgeons and has been certified in Critical Care.

IUHS Clinical Department strives to deploy the highest level of clinical training for our students. Students begin their clinical training during their pre-clinical years and commence their official clinical rotations during the 3rd and 4th years of study. Our clinical faculty and staff work cooperatively to coordinate, develop, and refine IUHS clinical opportunities and curriculum. Our goal is to maximize the quality and value of our student's medical education.

 

Dr. Andrew Merry  |  Dean of Academic Affairs

Dr. Merry holds a PhD in Pathology from the University of Michigan. He has specific responsibility for student policy, registrar services, school accreditation, and academic policy with international affiliated campuses.

 

Dr. Andrew Holness  |  Professor of Academic Studies, St. Kitts Campus

Dr. Holness is an MBBS graduate of the University of West Indies and has an active practice as a Family Physician in Basseterre. He is in charge of the medical school program on the St. Kitts Campus.
